The other night when I was bored at around two in the morning I made my way on to Hulu to see if there was anything worth watching. Against all my better instincts I decided to give the new reality show, Dating in the Dark, a shot. Three girls and three guys spend a week or so in a house and go on dates in total darkness. Then at the end of their time in the house they choose which person they’d like to see. When the girls and guys are revealed to each other, both people have to be totally silent. Finally, they choose if they’d like to meet with each other again. The show is everything that’s wrong with reality television, yet I was thoroughly engrossed for the duration.
After investing an hour of my time into this show I just needed to know if any of the couples stayed together. I was upset to see that the nerdy girl and the suave British dude are no longer a unit. But this information was difficult to come by. ABC should keep their site updated to tell me what happens to these people after the show. I just wasted an hour watching it, the least they could do is follow up on it for me.
I could be wasting time watching better television. I recently watched the first few episodes of The Shield since I’ve heard good things about it for years. I’ve enjoyed it so far but there are some flaws that I just can’t let go… the first episode ended with a scene that would otherwise be fantastic if it didn’t play Kid Rock’s “Bawitdaba” throughout its entirety. That’s just hard to forgive.
